Ana Claudia Utumi


Ana Cláudia Akie Utumi is the Head of the Tax practice group at TozziniFreire, member of the Permanent Scientific Committee (PSC) of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), and member of the NYU School of Law International Tax Program Practice Council, Ana Cláudia has practiced tax law since 1992.

In June 2015, Ana Cláudia was elected Chair of the Brazilian STEP Branch.

Assisting both Brazilian and foreign companies, she has accumulated broad experience in taxation issues in general, including those arising from cross-border deals such as mergers and acquisitions, financial and capital markets transactions, and other international tax legislation. In addition to working directly on client legal matters, Ana Cláudia maintains intense academic activity through classes, lectures, and articles.

Consistently recognized as a leading tax specialist in national and international legal publications such as Chambers Global, Chambers Latin America, Legal 500, Latin Lawyer 250, PLC Which Lawyer?, Who's Who Legal, Expert Guides, World Tax, and others. She was chosen by Latin Lawyer Magazine as being among the “40 best Brazilian lawyers under 40,” among the “Best Latin American Tax Lawyers,” and among the most prominent Latin American women lawyers who have excelled in their chosen area of practice. She received the “Best Tax Lawyer in Latin America” award by Euromoney Legal Media Group Americas Women in Business Law Awards.
